• Postdoctoral Academic Conference

    TIME: 11 Mar 2009

The Postdoctoral mobile station of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology held an academic Conference in the afternoon on March 2nd, 2009 in the meeting room B210. All the Post-doctors in the station as well as Mr. Cheng Zhang took attended the meeting.

Dr..Feng Chen presented his postdoctoral works with the title of Development and analysis of the promoter mutant of HMW 1BX14 gene using TILLING technology. He focused his researches on application of TILLING technology for screening and detecting the 1BX14 gene regarding wheat Glutenin subunits, and the results revealed that the forward repeat sequences might have important regulation on the expression of the 1BX14 gene. His research showed that TILLING provides a cost-effective, high-throughput method of screening for heterozygotes. It combines heterozygote screening with mismatch cleavage by Cel1 and, therefore, identifies rare ENU-induced mutations from common SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) by the size of the fragments generated. TILLING became one of the most important methods in a reverse-genetic strategy with the potential for general applicability to all of organisms.

After the presentation, the conferees had a full discussion about the key techniques and the experiment methods. All the conferees agreed that its necessary to regularly hold such seminars and it will be a great platform for postdoctorals to exchanges their academic ideas
