The 3rd Asia-Pacific Plant Phenomics Conference was successfully held in Sanya, Hainan from July 7th to 10th, 2023. Over 300 experts and representatives from China, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, and other countries attended the conference.
The conference topics covered sensors and plant phenotyping, indoor/field plant phenotyping, intelligent phenotyping and applications, multi-omics data and applications, phenotyping modeling and big data application, as well as academic journals session.
A total of 52 top experts, including Academician ZHANG Qifa from Huazhong Agricultural University, Thomas Altmann from the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Germany, Scott Chapman from the University of Queensland in Australia, Seishi Ninomiya from the University of Tokyo in Japan, and Professor JIANG Dong from Nanjing Agricultural University, gathered together to deliver exciting academic presentations. These presentations not only showcased the cutting-edge technologies in plant phenomics, but also provided important insights and methods to address major challenges such as global food security and environmental protection.
Additionally, the conference provided a broad platform for participants to exchange ideas. The in-depth discussions and exchanges among experts not only facilitated academic collisions and exchanges but also laid the foundation for future collaborations.

The China Plant Phenomics Network (CPPN) was officially established during the conference, which is voluntarily formed by outstanding units and researchers of plant phenomics in China. Its main mission is to promote the prosperity and development of the discipline of plant phenomics.
“The change from Phenotyping to Phenomics is a major progress in plant phenomics research”, said YANG Weicai, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB) of CAS.
The conference was jointly organized by Huazhong Agricultural University and IGDB, with the Yazhou Bay Seed Laboratory as the host. It was co-organized by 13 institutions, including the National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture, Sanya Research Institute of Hainan University, Greenpheno, Pheno Trait and so on.
